It's time to mark your calendar for the weekend of May 18-20, 2012 for 10th annual Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Ry. Preservation Society Reunion to be held again in Jackson, Tenn. Bringing the NCPS Reunion back to Jackson this year will mean that we have come full circle. For as you may remember, it was in Jackson in 2003 that we held our first Reunion. What better place to hold our 10th anniversary than here.

By the time these words fall under your eyes, our preparations for this year’s Reunion will be complete. The hotel will have been chosen, the meals will have been ordered, the speakers contacted, and the field trips will be set. Our Reunion host hotel is already taking reservations. The hotel is the Signature Boutique Hotel in Jackson, www.signatureboutiquehotel.com.

We have reserved 25 rooms in the name of the NCPS and you are encouraged to go ahead and make your reservations. The Signature can be reached at (731) 660-0077. Please make sure to tell the receptionist that you are with the NCPS to obtain our convention rate of $65 per room. The hotel has a complimentary full breakfast included with the room. Reservations should be made on or before May 5 to obtain that rate. We also have reserved two meeting rooms in the hotel so all business meeting activities, model displays, and the Friday night catered meal will be held there.

Jackson is steeped in railroad history including, but not limited to being, an important stop on the Paducah & Memphis “P&M” Division of the NC&StL as well as a meeting point for the Illinois Central and Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroads. And who could forget that Jackson was the home town of the most famous railroader of all, Casey Jones. Jackson is still a busy place, as it’s on the tracks of the Canadian National (successor to the IC and GM&O), so there should be plenty of opportunities for train watching during the weekend.

The Reunion registration fee will be $50 for NCPS members and $60 for non-members. This price will include a buffet meal Friday night and the Saturday night meal as well. Reservations made after May 5 will incur a $10 late fee. To download a registration form, go to: http://www.ncstl.com/

Elections
Under the charter of our society, the terms of the elected officers are for three years. In 2012 those terms expire and this year is an election-year. The positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and three member-at-large Board of Director seats are up for election. With this article you will find the profiles of those persons standing for election for the coming 2012-2015 term. I urge you to read the profiles and become familiar with the candidates.

Additionally, if you would like to serve on the NCPS Board of Directors, we welcome you to make your intentions known and to run for office. Since we were chartered in 2002, with only a few exceptions we have basically had the same executive board. The board would welcome the induction of new officers and new ideas. The office is not a time-consuming job. In fact, the board only meets about once a year, that being the weekend of the Reunion. We may also hold scheduled telephone conference calls on an as-needed basis.

If you could be a contributing member of the NCPS board, why not make your intentions known by calling David Ellenberg at (931) 636–7101 or emailing him at: treasurer@ncstl.com?
