Manchester, TN

"NC&StL Sparta Branch local approaching Manchester, TN., from Tullahoma, around 1950--not long before the advent of diesel power on this branch.

I saw my first train at Manchester, as a small child in my mother's arms. It was a passenger train, and I can still see the smoke belching out of the stack and the bell clangin. Passenger trains were discontinued on that branch about 1930. The branch continued on into CSX operation, but CSX forewent operation of it in the mid 1980s. It is now the Caney Fork and Western, with headquarters at McMinnville."
