Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis:
A History of the Dixie Line

The long-awaited book written by Dain Schult, President of the NC&StL Preservation Society, is now available for sale. The author has pledged a percentage of the profits to be designated for restoration of 576.

Excellent complete history of "Grandpa's Road," the NC&St.L. Beginning in 1845 and owned most of its life by the Louisville and Nashville before finally being merged in 1957. The NC&StL linked the Tennessee cities in its name across the Appalachians to the Southeast, powered by Mikados, fast Pacifics and large Mountains, as well as the first 4-8-4's in the South. During its life, however, this trunkline road never got the respect or recognition that it was due. This superbly researched history is detailed and complete from the 1840s to the 1950s, and features over 500 photos, many previously unpublished. This book will be a must for NC&STL fans, L&N fans, as well as anyone who has an interest in roads of the southland. Modelers will find a special section of photos on modeling the long neglected road. Rosters of freight, passenger and company service cars as well as locomotives, provide excellent references.

Through a special purchase, we have a limited number of this book available directly from our site that include a larger than normal donation to the Society. Purchase here.
