Mark your calendars for the weekend of May 20-22, 2016 for
the annual NCPS Reunion to be held in Cowan, Tennessee. An
exciting
time is to be had as the planning committee continues to work
on speakers and activities. Registration form here.
Our host motel is the Quality
Inn in Decherd Tennessee (only 9 miles from the
activities in Cowan). We have reserved rooms in the name of "NCPS",
and you are encouraged to go ahead and reserve your room. Quality Inn can be reached at 931-962-0130. Make
sure you tell the receptionist that you are with the NCPS to
obtain our convention
rate of $69.99 (plus tax) per room, (1-4 persons allowed per room).
There will be a great breakfast included in the price of your
room. And NCPS has reserved a hospitality suite at the hotel for
our use during the three day event. NCPS has rented
the Cowan Center for the Arts for the weekend to use as our
convention base (located at 301 Montgomery
Street, Cowan, TN 37318).
Cowan is steeped in Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis history.
Most prominent is the pusher district of the old NC needed to help
the mainline trains haul their trains over the 2.35% grade up to
Cowan tunnel. The tunnel which was started in 1849 is still in
service 156 years later.
Activities are planned around the Cowan
Railroad Museum and its collection of NC&St.L railroading memorabilia.
We are lining up retired NC&St.L employees to reminisce about
what it was like to work for "Grandpa's Road". There will also be field trips to see David Ellenberg's HO Scale layout, and to Tracy City for a tour of the Grundy County Historical Center.
For those with a little less interest in railroading, there are
plans to take a day trip to Lynchburg
TN for lunch at the historic
Miss
Mary Bobo's restaurant and a tour of the world famous Jack
Daniel's distillery or time for shopping. Reservations for Miss Mary Bobo's must be received by May 6.
We know that this year’s event will be a memorable one.
Mark your calendars and don’t forget to call the Quality
Inn now to reserve your room.
